White Bearded Wildebeest
Habitat:   plains and acacia savannas of East Africa
Size:   3'9
Weight:   330 and 550 pounds
Food:   Herbivorous

Description:
The wildebeest, also called the gnu is a large hooved (ungulate) mammal of the genus Connochaetes, which includes two species, both native to Africa: the Black Wildebeest or White-tailed/bearded Gnu, and the Blue Wildebeest or Brindled Gnu. Gnus belong to the family Bovidae, which includes antelopes, cattle, goats, and other even-toed horned animals.
Wildebeest's form the largest mammal migration in the world when in May around 1.5 million animals move up to 1,000 miles from the plains to the woods; Many wildebeest fall prey to croccodiles eagerly waiting for the herds to cross rivers. Wildebeest's have a remarkable ability to find water and can sense rain miles away. They return in November as summer rains water the plains.
After an 8-8 1/2 month gestation females give birth to one calf which can stand and run within minutes of birth and within days can run with the rest of the herd.
