Emerald Tree Boa
Habitat:   South American Amazon Basin region of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, northern Bolivia, and Brazil
Size:   6-9 feet
Food:   mice, lizards, and small birds

Description:
Emerald Tree Boas have highly developed front teeth that are proportionately larger than those of any other non-venomous snake, measuring between 2 1/2-2 3/4 inches! The bright green coloration and distinctive white markings are very distinctive among South American snakes. Babies are born live and colored orange or red until their adult green coloration takes over at about 10 months old. Emerald Tree Boas are nocturnal and spend the majority of their lives in the trees where they remain coiled with their head dangling down ready to strike at prey. Emerald Tree Boas do not make good pets as their temperment is not suited to handling. A bite from an Emerald Tree Boa, though not poisonous, is extremely painful and damaging. Emerald Tree Boas require very warm temperatures and high humidity.
