White Royal Bengal Tiger
Habitat:   Forests of Nepal, Myanmar, and SOuthern Tibet
Size:   8-10ft from head to tail
Weight:   300-500lbs
Food:   carnivorous

Description:
The rare white tiger is arguably one of the most beautiful big cats in the world. A recessive gene causes the white tiger in the same manner a recessive gene causes the black leopards. White tigers can be born with black or reddish stripes or no stripes at all and have pink skin, nose and paw pads with ice-blue eyes. Unlike lions, tigers do not live in family groups because the males take no part in raising the offspring. In a litter of tiger cubs, the young can be colored from orange to tabby to white and even reports of black depending upon the genes of the parents. White tigers tend to be larger at birth and as adults in comparison to their orange siblings. A Bengal tiger's roar can be heard up to 2 miles away! Newborn cubs weigh about 2 pounds and begin to eat some meat with their mothers milk around 6-8 weeks of age.Over the past century tiger numbers have fallen drastically. Of eight sub-species alive in 1900, three are now extinct and we have lost over 90 per cent of wild tigers. The last white tiger seen in the wild was killed in 1958. Although some circuses have inbred white tigers to increase their likelihood of the white gene, this practice causes genetic defects and is frowned upon by the zoological institutions. Habitat losses and the extremely large-scale incidences of poaching are serious threats to species survival. Poachers kill tigers for their pelts and for body parts used to make various traditional East Asian medicines. Other tigers in the wild are killed because of urbanization and revenge killing. Farmers blame tigers for killing cattle and in turn kill the tigers. Our White tiger here at Creation Kingdom Zoo has been captive hand-raised in to help make life more suitable in captivity. She has had constant interaction with her keepers since birth, going through routines and training that help with her vet checks and enclosure maintenance. Once fully grown, her interaction with her keeper will be limited to non contact interaction. This is where her training as a cub is important.
