Bactrian Camel
Habitat:   China and Mongolia
Size:   7 Feet Tall
Weight:   2000 - 2500 Pounds
Food:   They are herbivores, eating grass, leaves, and grains, capable of drinking up to 120 litres (32 US gallons) of water at a time.

Description:
The Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus) is a large even-toed ungulate native to the steppes of eastern Asia. The Bactrian camel has two humps on its back, in contrast to the Dromedary, also known as the Arabian Camel, which has one. They are capable of carrying heavy loads and can go for weeks or even months without water by utilizing the fat reserves in their humps. They can carry loads of up to 600 pounds over rough terrain at a pace of close to 40 miles per day.
Bactrian camels live in the steppes and desert plateaus of the Gobi desert in Mongolia and China (Xinjiang province). The climate in their range can vary from 122 degrees F in the summer to 25 degrees below zero in the winter. They have an amazing ability to adapt to these fluctuating temperature ranges.
In October 2005 there were an estimated 500 Bactrian Camels remaining in the wild in northwest China and Mongolia ad they were placed on the critically endangered species list.
